Happy, happy Friday!

10 Feb

Some mornings just feel good, don’t they? You feel rested, your coffee is extra delicious, and you get some good snuggle time with your loved ones. Can you tell that I woke up in a good mood today?

We have another apartment-focused weekend planned. We’re in search of the perfect frame for this print, which I love (thanks Ben and Heather!):

I’ve also been obsessed with this Refinery 29 video on how to easily achieve a smoky eye. It makes me feel so cool!

I just discovered the food section on Pinterest and lordy!, there are some delicious desserts. There will be some baking this weekend.

Happy Friday everyone!

The move continues…

20 Jan

Happy Friday everyone!

Our move into the new apartment continues this weekend. And I gotta say…this is the best way to move. Ever! We carry a little bit more across the hall everyday. And gradually, stuff has started to accumulate in the new apartment.

No muss. No fuss.

My goal for this weekend is to move our closets and our kitchen stuff over. I know that everyone probably says this but I’m going to be more organized in the new place. Ha! Well…it’s at least going to start out more organized. I’m developing systems. I’ve bought shelves and boxes. Our closets and kitchen will not be a disaster this time! Right?!

And because our move has been a piece of cake, I’ve also found room for extra projects. Can’t make things too easy, now can we? So, I’m painting all the IKEA furniture that I hate in a color that I love. Hopefully Deron and Henry like turquoise and teal as much as me cause we’re going to have a lot of blue-ish furniture here soon.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday everyone! We made it through another week. Phew.

Our little clan will be decorating the apartment this weekend. Yay Christmas trees! Yay stockings! Yay tinsel and lights and snowflakes! We’re also going to celebrate with the family  tradition of “crappy frozen food” (as my brother calls it) and seasonal Christmas beer. I love traditions.

I’m also WAY behind for book club next week. We’re currently reading A Stranger’s Child by Alan Hollinghurst and it’s…tough.

Maybe tough isn’t the right word. It’s sleepy. It’s quiet. It’s unhurried. It’s about British aristocrats after World War I or, as our English book club leader said, “it’s about a bunch of poufs in the English countryside.” Which is true, it is kinda about gays in the English countryside. But it’s taken me two weeks to read 167 pages and I have 200 more to go by Monday. I don’t think that I’m going to make it (eep).

I also promise to put up our Christmas wish lists this weekend. I’m having a lot of fun putting everything together and the Simple Kids philosophy presents a nice challenge.

More later.

Day 20 complete…66% of the way towards completing my goal. 10 more days to go.

Happy Friday!

Happy Friday everyone! We made it through another week. Our family is hunkering down at home this weekend. Hubby just came down with food poisoning (poor Deron!), so we’re in need of some extra R&R.

And look what came in the mail today…just in time… a care package from the weenie coffee fairy. Now we can snuggle in our jammies and drink delicious peppermint chocolatey-ness. Yum. Thanks weenie coffee fairy!

More tomorrow.

Happy Friday!

Okay…so work has totally kicked my butt the last few weeks. It’s challenging. It’s busy. It’s a major time commitment. True. But…there are times where it is totally worth it. And today was one of those days.

Nina Jablonski, an anthropologist at Penn State, spoke at the local high school today about the evolution of skin pigmentation. She is a very intelligent and accomplished scientist and it was great fun watching her presentation. Check out her TED talk:

Since we helped organize the high school event as part of our science outreach and engagement initiatives, we were invited to the subsequent event at the Lincoln Park Zoo. I guess when you are a famous anthropologist, you get special treatment at the zoo because they put on a good show. The gorillas demonstrated their ability to memorize eight symbol sequences on a touch screen. The chimpanzees demonstrated their ability to improvise tools for feeding. Original 1970s  documents written by Jane Goodall from Gombe were on display. We got to see the whole ape house. Top to bottom. Inside and out. Very cool.

All in all, it was a very memorable day.

Happy Friday everyone!

Happy Weekend! And a happy long weekend at that.

My boys and I drive to Ohio tomorrow morning for a visit with the Cleveland relatives. It will be SO nice to escape the injuries, inconveniences, and busy-ness that has plagued us this week. We can just chill with the family and talk about how amazing Henry is.

And, naturally, I’ve researched the Cleveland food scene. Did you know that Cleveland has become a foodie town?! Who knew?! Michael Symon opened a burger joint called B Spot (check it out here), which apparently has one of the best burgers in America. Plus, Cleveland can claim a grilled cheese sandwich restaurant called Melt (here), where if you get a tattoo of the Melt logo, you get 25% off for life. If I was really reckless, I could cross something else off of my bucket list (read more). Ha!…just kidding Mom.

Hope you all have a wonderful Labor Day weekend!
